Becca
Becca sat behind her desk looking over contracts for a potential new client, Blaine her assistant entered, as he called, "Ms. Mainwaring?"
Looking up at him, she saw the concern on his face; something was wrong. She demanded, "Yes Blaine, what is it?"
Blaine walked to her desk, as he disclosed, "I have just received a call from home, and need to make an emergency trip back. I am sorry to do this at such a busy time."
Becca smiled up at him as she assured, "Now Blaine, you know we are a very family-oriented firm. If you need to go, then you need to go. I can hand things for a little while without you. How long do you think you will be out?"
Blaine looked at her and shrugged as he admitted, "I am not sure, could be only a few days, could be a week or more. I really won't know until I get there."
Becca replied, "Well, just keep me informed, so I will know how long I will have to float alone."
Blaine smiled as he confirmed, "Of course, you know I will. I will be leaving tonight. I will contact you once I have landed stateside."
Becca nodded as she agreed, "Very well then, be careful and I will see you as soon as you can get back."
Nodding at her, he turned heading for the door. Just as he reached the door, he said over his shoulder, "I will brief Abby's assistant so should you need any assistance before I get back, she can help you." Nodding her head at him, he left.
Blaine rushed around getting the last-minute things done and got with Laura, Abby's assistant, to make sure she could help. Should Becca need anything, she would be up to speed with everything to keep anything from lacking in his absence. He hated to leave her at this point, but he could not ignore the call he had received or afford to make the caller angry with him. At five pm, he poked his head into Becca's office and said, "I am heading out now, so you need anything before I leave. My flight isn't until nine."
Becca looked up at him from the contract as she argued, "Nope, you get ready for your trip, and I will see you when you get back. Oh, and Blaine, you better come back, I need you."
Blaine smiled at her as he agreed, "I will be back. I promise you!"
Becca beamed at him as she wished him well, "Well then, you had better get going so you can get back. Take care, be safe, and I will see you later. Please close my door behind you."
Saying his goodbye, he pulled the door closed behind him and headed out of the office. He knew Becca would be in her office until late. She always was. She was lonely being so far from her family. She hated going to the loft so big and empty. At work, she could keep herself from thinking about how lonely she was, which was part of his battle with leaving her. He was the only one who could get her to do something other than work. Abby had tried on many occasions to get her to go out. It just was not Becca's style. She hated the formal functions. Becca always sent Abby and her husband. Even though she had never met Abby's husband, it was better than her going solo. Blaine realized he had to get this trip over quickly and get back here.
Becca sat and stared blankly at the contract in front of her on her desk; all the while, her mind went to thoughts about how she wished she could go home and visit her family like Blaine. But there was just too much to be done for this potential new client to stop and head home for no good reason other than suffering from homesickness. She sighed and buried herself in the contract again making sure everything was on the up and up for the client. Becca thought, “If I can land this one, I can breathe easier and not have to continue to worry about the firm and if it will make it on its own separate from the sister branch in Boston.” She had begged her brother, Michael, to let her do this, and now she had to show him she could do it and make it work in the family’s interests. Becca had been struggling for the last few months; several clients had left to go with a different firm, and every time she thought she had a hold on a new client, they would get snatched away. It was getting to her, and she was starting to feel like she had a spy among her employees. It was not going to go well if she had to call her brother. Determined she would do this on her own, she would make this one work out somehow.
She heard a phone ring, it startled her then she realized it was her private line and only the family called her on that line. She answered, "Hello?"
Her dad's voice came across the line, as he addressed, "Becca, Sweetheart."
Becca smiled as she cried out, "Daddy! To what do I owe the pleasure of this call?"
James, cutting the niceties, replied sharply, "Becca, you need to come home now."
Becca's smile dropped, panic set in, as she interrogated, "Daddy is everyone all right? Sara? Are she and the baby all right?"
James cut her off, as he demanded, "Becca, I will explain everything when you get here. I don't want you worrying while you are traveling. Sara and the baby are just fine, honey. Just get on the next flight and get home."
Becca nodded her head at the phone even though she knew he could not see her. She agreed, "Yes Daddy, I will be on the next flight out. I just have to finish this contract, and I will be there. Love you Daddy, see you soon." With the completion of her call with her father and getting her flight arrangements made, she got her focus back and set back to work on the contract.
Becca finished up the contract, she called Abby. She knew it was early, but she had to do it. Abby answered on the first ring, "Hello?"
Becca sighed, "Abby, I am sorry to wake you, but I have to fly home on some emergency, but I needed to let you know what needs to be done before I left. The client is expecting a call today."
Abby replied, "I will be there in five minutes, and you can go over it with me."
Becca thanked her and hung up. Rubbing her face with her hands, she knew she did not have time to get a shower; her flight was in less than three hours. Damn, she wished she had the family plane here because then she could take her time, but she had to use the commercial flight to get back to the states this time. As she had promised, Abby walked through her office door within five minutes.
Abby smiled sleepily at her as she announced, "All right, let's get to it so you can get on your flight, girl."
Becca smiled back at her as she acknowledged, "Great! Thanks for coming so quickly. I hate doing this to you so last minute..."
Abby held up her hand and stopped Becca, as she said, "Hey, it is what I am here for. We are a team even if you are the boss. Now tell me what I need to do for the client."
Becca smiled wide at her as she admired, "Abby, you are the best girl. I knew I made the right choice hiring you!"
Becca gave her the run down on what was needed so she could rewrite what she had notated and what to say to the client. She also told her to make sure to have a client copy of the contract and one for them to sign when she took the contract back to them with the corrections. She made sure to let Abby know how important it was to get the client under contract. Abby agreed and told her she would let her know as soon as she had them under contract.
Abby looked at the clock as she urged, "You have to go, Becca! do you have anything packed?"
Becca shook her head as she responded, "Nah, I have stuff back in Boston so no need to pack anything. I will see you as soon as I can, for now, you are in charge. Let me know if you need anything and I can get back here within six hours if needed."
Abby hugged her goodbye, and they both left the office.
At the airport, Becca checked in and got her boarding pass. Sitting and waiting for the redeye was not her idea of fun, but it was a necessity at this point so she would just have to make the best of it. Happily, she knew she could go to the penthouse since no one has been living in it since her brother, Michael, bought the estate east of town and Ethan, her younger brother, and Sara, his wife, had purchased a house as well. It was only used occasionally for clients, but she would use it today to get cleaned up since she knew her parents were staying with Michael at the estate.
She boarded the flight, settled into her first-class seat, and waited for takeoff. The flight attendant brought her a mimosa which she gladly drank down in the hopes it would help her sleep on the flight some. The flight finally took off around six am. This meant she would be home at six am and back at the penthouse no later than half past seven to get cleaned up and a couple of hours to sleep before she caught up with her parents and brothers. The flight was smooth, but she was just not able to sleep.
Now since she was headed home to see her family, she started to think about how she had not found her mate and wondered when or if she ever would. She was happy for her brother, Ethan, and her college friend, Sara. She had introduced them when she and Sara were in college together. Ethan was a few years behind them, but he had chosen to attend Yale instead of Harvard as the rest of them had done. She laughed to herself; he always had to be different. When he graduated, he and Sara got married, and both went to work at the Boston office. She had wanted Sara to come with her to London, but since Ethan was going to be working with Michael and was second in the pack, Sara was not able to go with her.
As she sat looking out the window of the plane, she remembered how much she loved Boston and missed everyone. She loved London too, but it was just too far from home. She would talk to Michael and Ethan when she got home about putting someone else at the head of that office. She was not going to find her mate there, or she would have already found him. By the time the plane landed, she had made up her mind she was going to move back home.
The disembarking started minutes after the doors opened. Since no one knew she was coming in when she did, there was no car to pick her up. She looked around and spotted the car rentals. She hated taxis; they always smelled in her opinion, so it was a rental. She would have one of the drivers return it once she got to the family estate.
When Becca entered the building, she smiled and asked the security guard not to tell her brothers she was here. He smiled at her as he agreed, "Of course, Miss I won't tell them."
Leaning over the desk, she kissed the old man on the cheek as she said, "You're the best."
She jumped on the elevator, pushed the button and put in her key to go to the penthouse. As she entered the apartment, she let out a sigh of relief; she was home, and it felt so great. She headed straight to the bathroom attached to her bedroom. God, she needed a hot shower to wash away the previous day. She turned on the water, stripped down while the water started to steam up the room. Becca placed her hand under the tap to test the water and found it just a bit too hot, she added more cold to get the temperature just right. She climbed in and closed the curtain. The water flowed over her soothing the aching in her muscles from lack of sleep. Becca let the warm water run over her head with her eyes closed wetting her hair. She ran her hands up her face and over her head to get the water out of her face. She did not hear him come in, but once her head was no longer under the water, she could hear a male voice yelling and calling out the name Charlie. Before she could answer, the shower curtain flew back and she froze when she found herself face to face with the most handsome man she had ever seen. He scanned her from head to her toe then back up again.
Startled but recovering quickly she yelled, "Get out of here!"
He looked back at her face, all he could get out, as he apologized, "I-I-I'm sorry, I thought you were..."
She cut him off and yelled again, "I said get out, now!"
Releasing the curtain, he stepped back and stumbled; she could not see what he did, but, she heard him fall. She shoved the curtain back open again, and saw him on the floor with his eyes closed. Without thought, she jumped out of the shower, kneeled down over him to make sure he was all right. Just as he opened his eyes, another unknown male came running into the bathroom yelling the name Wesley.
She could only assume he was calling to the man who was now on his back underneath her. Both looked up at him; Wesley spoke and told the other man he was all right. The man looked down at them and started to laugh so hard he was crying. Becca had no patience left. She stood up and yelled at the other man standing in the doorway, "Get out and take him with you. When I finish my shower, you will tell me who the hell you are and why you are in my apartment." Charlie knelt down to help Wesley up, Becca stood on Wesley's other side and helped lead him to the bed to sit down. By the time they made it to the bed and Becca had turned to head back into the bathroom, they heard a female voice yell from the front door. Charlie answered the voice, telling her they were in the room. The woman came to the doorway and looked graciously relieved. Becca did not understand and let it go. Then Becca heard a familiar voice calling a name she did not recognize, but it was her brother. The woman at the door called over her shoulder, she was fine, and they were in the room.
Michael came to the door looked straight at her, as he expressed, "Hey, Becca. Welcome home."
Huffing at him, she spat, "Nice welcome home. Who are these men and why are they in our apartment and this one in my room?"
Michael examined the woman standing next to him, then looked back at Becca and Wesley as he instructed, "If you two don't mind getting some clothes on and meeting us in the living room, I will explain everything." She huffed again only because she had not even thought about the fact she was completely naked as was the other man she assumed was Wesley.
In all the rush of things, she had forgotten to grab a towel and this gorgeous man who had interrupted her shower and yelled at her was naked as well which she had not noticed right off. He was delightfully yummy looking, and when she had touched him, she felt something she had never felt before. Looking back at her brother as Wesley moved off the bed to grab his pants, she saw her brother put his hand over the woman's eyes like she was a child.
Becca giggled to herself as she said, "I will get my clothes on and meet you out there."
They all left the room but her. She turned back before walking into the bathroom took one last look at Wesley as he slid on his jeans. She took in the full view of his ass as his jeans slid over and rested at his hips. Becca thought to herself, “Mmmmm, I would love to take a bite out of that ass.” Turning back just before she ran into the door jamb, she closed the door and got dressed.
As she entered the living room, everyone stopped talking all at once. Becca looked straight at her brother as she waited for him to fill her in. She flopped down into the chair opposite him and the other woman. Michael began by introducing her to Lyric, Wesley, and Charlie. Then fill her in on everything currently happening, what had happened, and why she was called home.
Becca watched Lyric as Michael talked and realized her arrival in the apartment was out of concern for her brother. It made her happy to know her brother found someone with such a great heart and love for family. Unlike the bitch he had been betrothed to, Jessie. Becca had never liked Jessie from the first time she met her all those years ago. She never really understood why Michael had agreed to it, but now he had found his true mate. Who from what she could tell was his match in every way. Becca liked Lyric right away. The fact she realized Wesley, Lyric’s brother; was her true mate was just icing on the cake.
When Michael finished talking, he and Lyric left to go back down to the offices. After they had left, she excused herself to finish her shower and lie down for a bit before going out to see her parents. As she laid in her bed, his smell was all around her and overwhelming her senses. She thought to herself, “So much for sleep!” As she rolled out of bed and headed into the kitchen to grab something quick to eat then maybe she would be able to sleep.
