I should be writing but needed the mental break. So, I started looking at images and covers emerged. I am overly ecstatic about three of them. The fourth one may get changed again a few more times before I am completely happy with it.
There is so much which goes into making the right cover and being happy with not only the images but the lettering and wording of the title. I take pride in my creations and there is a lot of obsessive compulsion for it to be perfect.
The cover is your first hook with the reader so it has to demand attention. Every aspect and detail is important. The images picked, the organization of the images, the text style, color & placement, and finally how they all meld to form the idea the author wants the cover to feed the viewer.
It is great for the artist and the author to like the finished product but the real desire is to draw the readers to the book. The cover has to catch the interest of the readers or book store wanderers. It has to entice them to pick up the book, read the back, and finally buy the book.
