Frustration on going...
As a selfpublished author it is so frustrating getting emails, direct messages from people you don't know wanting you to hire them for $100's to $1,000's of dollars or more in some cases, to increase your visibility, or audiance size.
There are no guarantees with any of them and then you are left with less $$ and/or more debt depending on how you paid, and no improvement in the areas they promised to provide with their services.
It makes anyone super sceptical about any others, who might actually make the difference in those areas, making the same offer.
I am not saying there aren't some very legit people out there that can make the differences in visiblity or readers reached. I am just saying I have run out of the seeing the best in people when it comes to handing over hard earned $$ that I spent the hours upon hours to earn, putting myself out there, pushing the envelope for myself, creating ads, setting up the posts, and asking for help to increase my books sales.
Doing the research still isn't a guarantee that anyone can provide what they are selling that isn't tangible but an idea. It isn't easy to do it all and if $$ was coming in on the regular and not sporadically it just might not be so frustrating to spend - but when it is so hard to come by, makes the release that much harder and less desirable.
